Description
To identify medicines used in Australia, using unique codes to deliver unambiguous, accurate and standardised naming conventions for both branded (trade) and generic (medicinal) products.
Scope
All commonly used medicines in Australia that may be recorded / stored on a patient's medication record.
How SNOMED CT will be used
Currently the AMT resides as a stand-alone terminology based on the hierarchal structure of SNOMED CT. The AMT will be integrated into SNOMED CT-AU (Australian extension) where appropriate (substances, medicinal entity, non proprietary medicinal product).
Why SNOMED CT will be used
SNOMED CT has been selected in Australia as the national clinical terminology.
