Description
University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT) is an early adopter for the use of Lorenzo. Its senior doctors and management team have a deep and long standing belief in the importance of an Electronic Patient Record (EPR) using a structured terminology, as a key factor in both delivering better patient care and achieving much higher levels of operational efficiency.
Scope
The EPR is now rolled out across all clinical specialities and all clinical users. An incremental approach was used to achieve this.
How SNOMED CT will be used
Lorenzo is a product developed to incorporate SNOMED CT as the underlying terminology within the product. There are a variety of data items that can be entered using SNOMED CT which include diagnosis, procedures, family history, allergies etc.
Why SNOMED CT will be used
The strategy for the NHS in England is to move to SNOMED CT for all health care communications. A number of the national products require SNOMED CT for the structured data within particular data items. Lorenzo was developed as part of the national programme in line with this approach; Morecambe Bay being one of the early adopters in the programme.
