New Zealand
New Zealand is represented in SNOMED International by Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora.
There is more energy than ever in rolling out SNOMED CT as the key information standard for an equitable, data-driven and digitally-transformed health and social system in Aotearoa New Zealand.
SNOMED CT implementation is central to an interoperability roadmap supporting the New Zealand Health Strategy, Pae Ora Healthy Futures reforms and national digital health programme, with their long-term goals of achieving health equity and improving health outcomes for all New Zealanders.
The focus over the next three years is the primary and community sector, where health providers are migrating their systems to SNOMED CT as they introduce new models of care, become data-driven and use technology to reduce workforce pressures.
SNOMED also plays a vital part in the New Zealand adaptation of the International Patient Summary standard, which allows consumers to tell their health story in digital form and streamlines their interactions with health services.
