Austria's representative to SNOMED International is ELGA GmbH, through which the SNOMED CT® terminology standard and related assets are made available to Austrian users.

Established in 2009, ELGA GmbH is an independent, not-for-profit organization funded by the federal government, the federal provinces and the Main Association of Austrian Social Security Institutions. The mission of ELGA GmbH is the planning and implementation of the Austrian national electronic health record "ELGA".

ELGA, an acronym for “elektronische Gesundheitsakte”, serves as an information system that simplifies the process of accessing your health records for you and your doctors, as well as other health care professionals at hospitals, care facilities and pharmacies. Health data such as a patient’s test results are generated by a variety of health institutions. ELGA networks all of them and makes them available digitally by means of a link.
